December 2022 - Christmas Vacation In Okinawa

Day 1: A White Christmas - We woke up in a panic. We were supposed to drive to the airport, but overnight it has begun to snow hard. We quickly made some last min train reservations and got my wife's father to drive us to the station. Fortunately, we were able to make our flight without difficulty.

We arrived late in the evening, checked into our hotel, and then ate at A&W ... Rootbeer isn't very popular in most of Japan, but it is in Okinawa.

Day 2: The next day we went to Okinawa World and saw the caves, botanical gardens, and the snake museum.

That night we checked into our little bungalow on a small island and had a fantastic meal.

Day 3: We woke up and had a nice picnic breakfast at the nearby island beach.

Then we drove to Motobu to go kayaking and snorkeling.

That night we grilled outside.

Day 4: We woke up and had another picnic on the beach.

Then we went off to explore some castle ruins and the local history museum.

We ran out of time to go to the aquarium, so instead we went and painted Shisa - The Guardian Lion Dogs of Okinawan culture. Ours turned out a little cartoony though.

We checked into another hotel and then went to a local izakaya for dinner & drinks. The food was excellent.

Day 5: Today we drove back north to the aquarium and spent most of the day there and along the beach.

But like all great adventures, it was time for this one to end. It was nice to escape the winter cold for a little bit.
